A Community festival to celebrate the season of Kunumeleng

3 day camping at Litchfield National Park Environmental Education camp.

Thursday 16th November  – Sunday 19th November, 2023

This camping area holds the signs of this season.

Andjarduk the red bush apples should be ripening.

Anmorlak the billy goat plums have their new leaves.

Dirnidini the cidadas fill the days with their songs, and

Kardidi the crickets take their place calling at night.

Andak the yellow milky plum should be ready to eat.

Anbedje the spear grass emerges from the ground and

Namarrkon the lightning man emerges from the rocks to

‘line up the clouds and throw lightning and thunder around’.

‘Walks with Nature’ group invites you to join us for a most exciting time of year, when the storms arrive. The time to celebrate the season of Kunumeleng and camp in a place to get the ‘feel’ of the season.

Directions to the camp –

Drive through Batchelor and out to the Florence Falls turn off.

Follow the road to Florence Falls and you will see a sign off to the left to Buley Rock hole. Opposite this sign look to the right and you will see a locked gate and a dirt track. Follow the dirt track, about 500 metres, to the camp.

If you are first to arrive the padlock code is (8999 ) otherwise the gate will be dummie locked so place the hook around the padlock so other people can see this. Inside the main shed, one of the steel posts close to the storeroom has a key lock attached – it has the same code as the padlock (8999) This key will open the kitchen and storeroom and you can place the key back into the key lock on the shed post and close the key box by moving the number code.

This wonderful place is an area we get to know more and more each time we visit.

For newcomers to this place, bring all your eating and cooking utensils.  There is a small gas fridge but you are better off bringing an esky with big ice blocks.  Cater for yourselves breakfast and lunches, but for dinners, we usually each prepare something and put it all out as a smorgasboard to have as a shared meal.

For morning or afternoon tea bring fruit to cut and share if you wish.

Bring a lantern for the meal tables at night.

Bring a coloured cloth for your children to use for the night dramatized stories.

Bring a t-shirt or a bag, dress, shorts or pillow case to print.

Camping is easy on cut lawns, showers and toilets are close by to the tent area.  You will need a torch.

Bring clothes to cover your skin from mozzies at night and shoes for bush walking.  Bring water bottles and hats for walking and a basket or a bag to collect bush treasures.

The Rangers do not take our rubbish away so please bring your own bucket and bags to take away your own rubbish.  If you have chooks bring a bucket to take the compostable food home. Please manage your own disposable nappies so they are not stored in the kitchen garbage bin where we prepare food, thanks.

You will need to take all rubbish home with you.

Parks and Wildlife charge for camping is  –

$15 / adult / day and $6 / child over 5 years / day  or $38 for family.

We collect the fees at the camp to give to the Park Rangers – this goes towards the Special purpose area. We ask a small charge of $12 per day per family for materials we supply. Please remember to pay this fee even if you just come for a day and don’t camp.  It contributes to the materials provided. Thank you.

If you have any queries please email Di before 14th November: anbinic@gmail.com

Bookings and payments can be made by emailing Di and payment details are below – I have had to prepay the camp facility in August to secure the booking,

So pay when you decide you wish to be part of the seasonal celebration.
