At Milkwood Steiner School we cherish childhood and educate for excellence, inspiring the academic and personal growth of students from Playgroup to Class 6.

We have a 2-morning per week position leading Playgroup on Tuesdays and Thursdays (TBC)  commencing in Term 2 2018. The Playgroup runs during school terms, 9:00-11:00am, with the leader working 8:30am – 11:30am for preparation and pack-up, plus 1 additional hour per week for overall Playgroup planning and management.

To be considered for the position you will have a strong understanding of child development from a Steiner perspective, most likely with formal qualifications in Steiner Education or experience working in a Steiner-inspired Playgroup, Preschool or School. As the Milkwood Playgroup Leader you will hold the rhythm and boundaries to support the whole group, support parent needs and deliver parent education, maintain the Playgroup space and create and organise seasonal festivals.

Overall Playgroup management and administration includes working with the Milkwood Steiner School staff to maintain enrolments, maximising playgroup numbers by referring people to enrol as soon as possible and passing on details to office to allocate placements and fee payments; and assist to manage group numbers and waiting lists. A Working with Children Clearance is also required.

Class Teacher, Class 1 /2 Composite - currently taking applications

A vacancy exists for a Class 1 /2 composite teaching position from the commencement of Term 1, 2018 and suitable applicants are invited to apply for this ongoing position.

Established in 2004, Milkwood Steiner School is a co-educational, independent school offering a primary level education from Preschool to Class 6 to currently 85 students. Milkwood is a caring, vibrant and growing school with an emphasis on developing the whole child through the head, heart and hands using the ACARA approved Australian Steiner Curriculum.

Our school is located approximately thirteen kilometres from the city of Darwin in the Northern Territory and features large tropical style buildings with classrooms that open out on to 5m-wide verandas. Activities extend into the adjacent native woodland where children explore. Nature studies and excursions complement our curriculum with trips to nearby beaches and nature reserves and wild spaces.

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a practical understanding of Steiner Education pedagogy and philosophy
  • Have previous experience as a Steiner Primary School teacher or Secondary School Steiner teacher
  • Have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other teachers
  • Be a highly independent and motivated individual
  • Have a high degree of professionalism and communication skills
  • Have a preparedness to be fully involved in the Schools’ activities
  • Have suitable qualifications in primary education
